Nelson Davis Obituary

West Brookfield/North Brookfield – We lost a loving father, husband, grandpa and great man, Nelson Charles “Charlie” Davis on Saturday, February 27, 2021.

Charlie leaves behind those he cherished deeply, his wife, Deborah A. (Walker) Davis of West Brookfield, his seven children, Jon Davis and his wife Phyllis of Vero Beach, FL, Paul Davis and his wife Debbie of Leicester, Scot Davis and his wife Brenda of Spencer, Peter Davis and his companion Heather of Spencer, Christopher Davis and his companion Aimee of East Brookfield, Matthew Davis and his wife Carla of Sandwich, and Lisa Hubacz and her husband Tom of West Brookfield; seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Crevier and her husband Freddie.  Charlie was born in East Brookfield, son of the late Nelson Joseph and Albertine (LaLiberté) Davis.

As a young man growing up on Lake Lashaway, Charlie enjoyed water skiing, fishing, skating and being with friends.  He chose a career in truck driving, beginning at Hannigan Trucking then moving on to Consolidated Freightways from where he retired after 36 years.  He became a proud member the Local 170 Teamsters Union.  He also founded the Trolley Stop in East Brookfield where he enjoyed cooking for and socializing with his friends and locals. Later in life he liked having family dinners, golfing, playing cards, horse racing, the casino, and telling everyone a really good joke.  He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Lord knows how he pulled off raising his seven children with his wife Deborah, but in the end, he said his biggest accomplishment in life was keeping a large loving family intact, and passing that framework and love on to the next generation of Davis’s.

Charlie’s family can’t say enough about the 2nd and 3rd floor staff at Baystate Wing Hospital. The kindness, care and attention to detail in looking after Charlie in his final days made his passing much easier for him and our family.  We should all be so lucky to have someone look after us like that in a time of need.

Immediate services for Charlie will be held privately.  A graveside service will be held in Walnut Grove Cemetery in North Brookfield in the Spring, for all to gather.  In lieu of flowers and well wishes, memorial donations may be made to The Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901, or online by visiting https://www.dementiasociety.org/donate.
