Brookfield - Carol H. (Howes) Shailer, 77, of Brookfield, died on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Harrington Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She leaves her loving and long-time care giving husband of 56 years, Paul W. Shailer; a son, Stuart P. Shailer of Brookfield; two daughters, Karen E. Jourdenais and her husband Mark of Southbridge and Valerie L. Bigwood and her husband Everett of Washington State; four grandchildren, Corinne, Benjamin, Hanna, and Carolin and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her sister, Janice Pratt and her husband Robert of Ware. She was predeceased by her sister, Sharon Penta. She was born in Greenfield, daughter of the late Theodore K. and Evelyn L. (Philbrick) Howes, and grew up on a farm in the Apple Valley section of Ashfield.
Carol graduated from the former Sanderson Academy in Ashfield, and the Franklin County Hospital School of Nursing in Greenfield. She worked as a Registered Nurse working at Hahnemann Hospital in Worcester and also provided nursing care to patients in their own homes.
Carol was a long-time member of the Brookfield Congregational Church.
A Memorial Service for Carol will be held on October 19, 2019 at 11:00AM in the Brookfield Congregational Church, 8 Central St., Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brookfield Congregational Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 457, Brookfield, MA 01506.
