Ware - Alvenia M. (Gonthier) Girard, 92, of Ware died on Friday, October 11, 2019, at her home with her caring family by her side.
She leaves six children, Marcel Girard, Cecile Ross, Francine Hammers and her companion Michael Harsch, Raymond Girard, Helen Herbert and Paul Girard; eight grandchildren, Christopher Ross and his wife Stephanie, Madeline Girard, Michael Hammers, Jessica Girard, Monique Girard, Daniel Girard, Jean-Claude Hebert, and Evangeline Hollingsworth and her husband Joseph; four great-grandchildren, Antoinette Hollingsworth, Damien Ross, Kenzie Ross, and Benjamin Hollingsworth as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her sister, Beatrice Gonthier Boucher, a daughter-in-law, Terri Girard, and a sister-in-law, Pat Gonthier. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Claude Girard in 2013, her son, Andre Girard, and her siblings Leopold Gonthier and his wife Lucille, Leandre Gonthier and his wife Jeanette, Simone Gonthier Roy and her husband Camille, Robert Gonthier and his wife Rose, Julienne Gonthier Dinelle and her husband Phillip, Roger Gonthier, Jeannette Gonthier Asselin and her husband Emile, and her brother-in-law, Robert Boucher. She was born in St. Raphael, Bellechasse, Quebec, Canada, one of nine children to Pierre and Eva (Doiron) Gonthier.
Alvenia was a devoted homemaker to Claude and her seven children. She loved to bake breads and make desserts, and enjoyed growing her annual vegetable garden, doing jigsaw puzzles, and playing peechnut, a fast, finger-flicking Canadian board game. She and Claude enjoyed wintering in Englewood, Florida for 30 years where they also made many friends. Most of all, she loved having her large extended family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Alvenia was a long-time member of All Saint’s Church. She was very grateful to God for her long, well-fulfilled life.
A Funeral Mass for Alvenia will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11:00AM in All Saints Church, 17 North St., in Ware. A calling hour will be held in the church from 9:30 to 11:00AM prior to the mass. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery following mass.
