Ware/Easthampton - Susan Mantler Leber, 66, of Old Gilbertville Rd., Ware died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

She leaves her loving husband of 16 years, Matthew C. Leber; her devoted son, Sam Nelson and his wife Jennifer of Easthampton; her "adopted" son, Alex Ambroz of Ohio; her brother, Robert W. Mantler of Easthampton; six beloved grandchildren; Bryce, Aubrey, Cadence, Marley, Riley and Grace; and several nieces and nephews.

Susan was born in Paterson, NJ, the daughter of the late Robert C. and Kathryn (Jollie) Mantler. She spent most of her childhood and teenage years in Chicopee and raised her family in Easthampton. Because of her long involvement with her Mom and Dad in the community, she was already well known in Ware when she moved there in 2015.

Susan spent forty years in nursing, the last 17 years with Holyoke Associates in Internal Medicine as the medical assistant to their oncology physician.

She was a longstanding member of the Easthampton Congregational Church. For longer than a decade Susan and Matthew were Mrs. and Mr. Santa Claus at the annual Family Mission Children’s Christmas Party at the United Church of Ware. Susan was an award winning quilter and a member of the Pioneer Valley Quilt Guild. She was appointed by the mayor to the Nashawannuck Pond Steering Committee in Easthampton for many years.

A Memorial Service celebrating Susan will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 4:00 PM in the United Church of Ware, 49 Church St. in Ware.  Burial will be held privately in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Family Mission Children’s Christmas Party, United Church of Ware, 49 Church St., Ware, MA 01082. Susan absolutely LOVED Christmas and children and being Mrs. Claus and would have been most grateful for contributions to this fund so that this mission to children will last for many more years.
