Harry J. Makovitch, 73, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, November 7, 2016.  He was born on January 15, 1943 in Holden, MA, an only child to the late Joseph and Florence (Ingle) Makovitch.  Harry grew up in Barre, MA.  He was a 1962 graduate of Barre High School, and he enjoyed time spent as a volunteer fire fighter for the town of Barre.  Harry was also a very proud Vietnam Veteran, actively serving from 1964-1966, and he was a current member of American Legion Post 123 in Ware.  Retired since 2001, Harry’s most recent occupation was as a circuit board plater at E.C.C. Corporation in Holden, MA.

An avid outdoorsman, Harry loved nothing more than to be surrounded by nature.  From hiking and kayaking to bird watching and astronomy, he truly appreciated the beauty and serenity of the natural world.  Over the years, a number of outdoor hobbies occupied Harry’s time including beekeeping, gardening, and making maple syrup.  He also loved to ride his Harley, and he was an exceptional cook.  He truly lived a full and active life.

Harry’s family meant everything to him.  He was a devoted husband of 49 years to his wife, Marilee (Dunham) Makovitch, and an incredibly loving and dedicated father to his only child, daughter Beth (Makovitch) Stachowicz, both of Ware.  He also leaves behind his son-in-law Robert Stachowicz and two young grandchildren, Caden and Hallie Stachowicz, whom he absolutely treasured.  Harry’s family is deeply saddened by his loss, and they will continue to hold the amazing memories of his life and love close to their hearts forever.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held in Harry’s honor at Charbonneau Funeral Home in Ware on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 6 o’clock in the evening.
