West Brookfield - Daniel T. Braney, Jr. 82, of West Brookfield, died on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Harrington Memorial Hospital.
He leaves his sister, Mary Joan Boire of Millbury, two granchildren, Max King and Drew Dobeck, his sisters-in-law Jean Stone and Kathleen Braney, several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife Maxine (Grenier) Braney in 1975 and his daughter, Sharon M. Braney in 2011, as well as his brother, Michael and his sister, Marion. He was born and raised in Millbury, son of the late Daniel T. Braney, Sr. and Ethel W. (Tobin) Braney, and has lived in West Brookfield for over 20 years.
Daniel worked as an Operations Technician at the former New England Bell Telephone Company before he retired.
Mr. Braney was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Dan was a voracious reader, who also liked western and classic movies, and could often be seen in a quiet way helping others. He enjoyed spending social time at the Ye Old Tavern in West Brookfield, where he was familiar to patrons, and easy to talk with.
A private Graveside Service for Dan will be held in the spring in Central Cemetery in Millbury. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Brookfield Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 540, West Brookfield, MA 01585. Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield is assisting his family with arrangements.
